This is an epic 6-day dual sport ride from the floor of the Mojave desert to the pines of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Each day will be very unique in its own way with varying terrain and scenery. You will experience some of the greatest dirt biking in the Mojave Desert and our mountains with some single track and endless 2-track trails. We will make it as challenging or relaxing as you want it. You will thoroughly enjoy our fuel injected KTMs which are taken care of meticulously. We will ride super fun trails through the massive Mojave Desert and see some of the best views the desert has to offer leading to the pine trees in the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains.
1st Night: You can fly in to LAX where there is a convenient shuttle service that you will need to book ahead of your arrival date (Antelope Valley Airport Express). LAX is approximately 1.5-2 hours from Palmdale. You can also fly into Burbank or Ontario which are about 1 hour from Palmdale. However, there is no shuttle service and you can use a ride share service such as Uber or Lyft or you can rent a car which you can drop off in the Palmdale/Lancaster area. You will need to arrive that evening at the Best Western in Palmdale (600 W Palmdale Blvd, Palmdale, CA 93551) where a room has been reserved for you under your name.
Day 1: We will begin our day at approximately 6:00am where we will pick you up from the hotel and transport you to our property. If you have a rental car that you are keeping, it can be parked safely there. This is also where you will get outfitted for any gear you need and be able to see the bike you will be riding. We will have breakfast here and begin our adventure about 8am. We will have snacks, energy chews, water, and other items to pack into your hydration pack. You will be riding for approximately 3 hours before the chase vehicle meets us for lunch in the desert. There we will do the 3 Rs (refuel, restock and relax) and make any necessary bike adjustments. After lunch, we will ride for another 3 hours (making the day approximately 120-150 miles) where we will arrive at Randsburg for the night. At the Cottage Inn, you will have a hot shower, enjoy some alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, eat a delicious dinner and sit by the fire to tell stories of the day.
Day 2: You will wake up to a hot pot coffee and be having breakfast around by 7:30am. We will start riding anywhere between 8:00-9:00am. This day we will ride the El Paso mountains enjoying some fine 2 track trails and old mining sites. After lunch we'll enjoy some fantastic desert single trails, visiting the prehistoric Trona Pinnacles. We will ride approximately 100-120 miles on this day. You will be treated to a relaxing with a steak dinner and enjoyable evening by the fire at the special Trona cabins.
Day 3: This day starts similar to Day 2. We will head north through Ballarat and the Argus Range visiting several mining sites and other historical destinations. We can do a loop out of Ballarat about 30 miles long which is an intermediate loop at an elevation of 7500 ft overlooking some spectacular views of Death Valley. We will end the day at the Panamint Springs Resort, the gateway to Death Valley. That night we will eat at the hotel’s restaurant and enjoy a relaxing evening.
Day 4: This day will take us from Panamint to Big Pine, another great day ahead of us. Here we'll head further north to the south end of the White mountains, riding up the backside to the historic old mining town of Cerro Gordo. Then we will visit the old salt tram on the way to lunch in Lone Pine. After lunch, we will be riding west through the Alabama Hills (made famous for John Wayne movies) and then back up to the White mountains to the Mazourka Peak, finishing the day in Big Pine.
Day 5: After some hot coffee and breakfast, this day will take us from Big Pine to Mammoth. We will be riding on the west side of the Owens Valley to Bishop, doing a great little loop through the Aspen Forest which will be breath-taking this time of year. Then we will head up to Sherwin grade, around the east side of Crowley Lake into some fantastic forest 2-track trails where it will take us back into Mammoth. Here we can park for the day or do some more epic riding up to Joaquin Peak. On this night, we will eat Mexican food at Roberto's and maybe have a soak in the hot tub.
Day 6: Now we will be traveling from Mammoth to Lake Topaz. Heading north on some fantastic 2- track in the woods towards Benton, then we will head up to the historic ghost town of Bodie. We'll end this epic 6-day ride going up and over or maybe around Mt Patterson and riding into Lake Topaz for the night where we can share big stories. By this point, we will have ridden approximately 900 miles over these 6 days. Every day we will have the comforts of our chase van which will be meeting us at several locations and at any time you can take a break and ride in the van. Our mission is to have a whole lot of fun and keep you safe.
Day 7 About a hour north is Reno you can make arrangements to fly out there or ride back to Palmdale with us which is about a 6 hour drive back. We should arrive at our property at approximately 3-5pm. From there you can use Uber or Lyft services to take you to your airport (or a rental car if you have one). You should assume a minimum of 2 hours to arrive at LAX and 1 hour to arrive at Burbank or Ontario airports.
Come join us for this epic adventure that will make memories of a lifetime!
Each of our adventures are based around a novice to intermediate rider ability (scale: beginner, novice, intermediate, expert). We can arrange SOME rides for beginners, but we need to discuss the specific rider ability to ensure we create a safe and fun experience.
Don't let the daily mileage worry you, we can also arrange rides with less daily or overall mileage as needed for your group. We are very flexible.
Safety is extremely important to Coyote Trail Adventures. Our guides have GPS navigation and satellite phones along with being trained in First-Aid response.
We are 100% committed to ensuring that all you have to focus on is enjoying your ride on the bike! We take care of all the details to make your trip as epic as it can be! We even typically have the items that people might forget to bring. We have a tremendous amount of experience with helping riders with fatigue and first-aid issues such as blisters.
We have personally been on many moto adventures with other tour companies and we find that an ideal group size is between 4-8 riders which helps to keep the group riding at a pleasurable pace. Though, we can accomodate larger groups if needed.
For all our rides, we can also arrange pre or post-ride lodging in Palmdale for $140 double occupancy (cost for 2 people).
We have the CA required liability insurance on all of our bikes which covers our renters and we are permitted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
Feel free to call us and we can explain various options to get exactly what you are looking for.
For those who fly into LAX, there is a shuttle service that you can call to book: http://antelopeexpress.com/
Here are the requirements we have if you want to bring your own bike:
